Wicked Wine Run Races Through Callaway

Who said drinking and exercise don’t mix?

On the evening of Saturday, August 9th, hundreds of runners taking part in the Wicked Wine Run will prove that there’s nothing wrong with adding a little wine to your workout.

“Everybody enjoys themselves, with dancing and drinking and having a good time”

“This is pretty much the most wicked theme race around,” Aaron Scott, Wicked Wine Run creator said, during a recent interview. “Wicked like the surfers say, like catching a wicked wave. It’s not the musical with the witches.”

A personal trainer, Scott used his own professional experience to design an exercise event like no other.

“I own a couple of boot camps for women and what I found out was women love wine,” he said. “I thought, that’s a great concept, wine and running, and something that had never been done before. There are a lot of theme races out there but we wanted to set ourselves apart from everybody else and do something different.”

The event starts at 5:45 pm, with a 5K run/walk through the vineyards of Callaway Winery; designed for both seasoned runners and novices alike.

“The great thing about [the run] is you have some avid runners and you have the casual runners who are sort of run-walking, just enjoying the scenery with their costume on,” Scott said. “Callaway is the perfect place for the race because it lights up at night and that’s going to make the race that much more of a spectacle.”

When they cross the finish line, 5K runners are presented with a glass of wine in their very own Wicked Wine Run glass to take home.

With 5K’s being a dime a dozen as more and more people take up running, the Wicked Wine Run is unique in that the race is followed by a 1K Wicked Tasting Walk, with four wine tasting stops as you walk through the lush vineyards. Runners are invited to sign up for one or both events.

Following both races, runners will be treated to an after-party with a live cover band, food trucks, a costume contest and, of course, lots and lots of wine.

“Everybody enjoys themselves, with dancing and drinking and having a good time,” Scott said. “It’s really the most fun running event out there.”
