Mount Palomar Winery Stomps in the Fall
It’s harvest time in the Temecula Valley and vineyards all over wine country are collecting the cherished crop that will be used to make the merlots, chardonnays and pinots of the future.
To kick off the autumn season, Mount Palomar Winery is hosting their annual Grape Stomp and Harvest Festival this Sunday.
An adults-only, 21 and over event, the grape stomp is a European tradition, where revelers don their best grape stomping costumes, à la the classic “I Love Lucy” episode, to jump, stomp and pound their way to fresh juice.
At the Mount Palomar event, teams of two “Stompers & Muckers,” will compete for prizes as well as the opportunity to claim the bragging rights as the grand grape stomping champions. Awards will be given to first place in every heat, as well as a spot in the final stomp at the end of the afternoon’s festivities.
Ticket prices are $45 (plus tax) per person, $40 (plus tax) for wine club members. Participants are asked to sign up in pairs or a partner will be designated for them.
“The price includes a Mount Palomar Winery t-shirt, a glass of wine for each member of the team and the chance to compete to fill a gallon jug full of freshly stomped grape juice,” Lauren Shields, Mount Palomar Weddings and Events Manager said.
Even if you don’t have the nerve to jump into the grape barrels and give it your all, there are still plenty of activities for spectators to join in the fun. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, including a traditional American barbeque and the tasting room is open for those looking to sample some of Mount Palomar’s exclusive wine offerings.
As an added treat, local cover band favorite, Bodie, will be performing Southern rock classics all afternoon, giving party-goers a chance to kick up their heels and show off their moves.
Tickets for the fall-themed event are available now but walk-ins will be accepted on the day of the festival, pending availability. Get your tickets now to ensure a place in the competition.
Whether you are up for getting a little juicy or are just celebrating the change in seasons, the Mount Palomar Winery Grape Stomp and Harvest Festival is giving attendees the chance to welcome autumn the best way possible, with food, wine and great entertainment.
