Nathan James and the Rhythm Scratchers Return to Wine Country
“To best describe my music, I would have to say that it is a combination of American roots music all based in the blues,” James said. “One part 1930’s Piedmont Ragtime and Delta Blues; one part 1950’s Rhythm and Blues; and one part early 1960’s New Orleans and Memphis Soul- all mixed together to make our own original sound.”
Having just returned from playing the legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise in the Western Caribbean and a tour in Spain and Denmark, James returns with his band, including Troy Sandow and Marty Dodson, to wine country whenever they are back home, as a way to relax and reconnect with the area.
Performing original material as opposed to covers, Nathan James and the Rhythm Scratchers cater each performance to the audience in attendance.
“If it’s packed and everyone wants to dance, we do our best to keep everybody moving on the dance floor,” he said. “If it’s kind of mellow and everyone is off doing their own thing, then we will kind of ease into them, playing a little more mellow and jazzy, until we feel it’s the right time that someone wants to dance. Every night is different and we never play the same set in the same order.”
James is thrilled to return to Miramonte Winery this weekend; a venue he feels is almost like seeing an old friend.
“The winery does enhance my performance because I’ve been playing there for about a decade now and I always feel like I can play what I want and not have to try to please anybody,” he said. “Everyone seems to always like what I do.”
So whether you’ve had a chance to catch Nathan James and the Rhythm Scratchers on a previous local stop or will be seeing them for the first time this weekend, it promises to be a great night of entertainment in Temecula wine country.
