Refuge Brewery Summer Nights Goes Irish
Temecula’s own Refuge Brewery takes backyard parties to a new level, with Summer Nights at the Brewery.
Open for only a year and a half, the mostly Belgian style brewery wanted to create somewhere to not only find great beer, but a place that locals can hang out and have a good time.
Because of California Alcohol and Beverage Control regulations, Refuge is unable to hold private events for their guests, however nothing was stopping them from starting their own monthly tradition.
Every third Saturday of the month from 5-10 pm, the back doors of the brewery open up and let swarms of beer lovers enjoy the summer sun on their back patio; providing them with entertainment, good food and, of course, their most popular brews.
When Refuge Brewery Co-Founder and Brewmaster, Curt Kucera, and his wife and Events Director, Diane Kucera, starting brainstorming, they knew Summer Nights had to be something worthy of their faithful patrons. The idea proved to be quite successful and they have packed the house ever since their first event in May.
“I would want people to say that this is the best event they’ve been to in Temecula,” Curt Kucera said, during an interview at July’s Summer Nights event. “We decided that we only wanted to do really cool events. So, we opened it up outside and brought in super killer food trucks. We wanted to have great bands. We got glasses that people could take home and we’re discounting our beers. We didn’t want to cut any corners.”
Guests at the July 19th Summer Nights enjoyed crab cake sandwiches and bacon-wrapped mac and cheese from the Devilicious food truck while listening to Orange County bluegrass/Irish Americana punk band, Vagrant Nation. Lakers-themed bean bag tosses added to the tailgate party atmosphere.
Each Summer Nights event features one signature brew. July’s party featured Lifted Leprechaun, brewed with coffee and Jameson whiskey, to match the Irish pub theme.
“Next month’s event beer is going to be an over the top, barrel-aged, IPA because we’re so close to San Diego where people really love IPA’s,” Kucera said.
Though it seemed the capacity crowd was having the time of their lives, Kucera promises that the August 16th installment of Summer Nights at the Brewery will be the best party yet.
“It’s going to be another crazy fun night,” he said. “We’ve got the master brewer from Stone Brewery coming down. He’s got a band and they’re going to play for us. We’re going to be serving in big pint glasses with an awesome chrome logo on it, for people to take home.”
If you plan on attending the fun in the sun that is Summer Nights at the Brewery in August or September, arrive early or you may be left out in the cold.
“We wanted to have something in Temecula where everyone can come out and have fun,” Kucera said. “We want our Summer Nights to be nights to be remembered.”
