Classics at the Merc Presents Classic and New Compositions
Every Sunday afternoon, the Old Town Temecula Community Theater and the California Chamber Orchestra present the community with an opportunity for not only cultural enrichment but also to enjoy an afternoon of excellent music in an intimate setting.
The weekly series, Classics at the Merc, brings the finest of classical musicians to the Inland Empire and there isn’t a bad seat in the house, by way of the popular 48-seat Merc theater.
“An intimate setting is ideal for chamber music,” Cellist and Director of the University of San Diego Chamber Music Ensembles, Angela Yeung said. “The audience is very nearly part of the performance and all of the subtle nuances can be heard and appreciated from the performers. It gives the audience a chance to get up close and personal with the music and the musicians.
Yeung and her quartet will be featured at Classics at the Merc this Sunday, November 16th at 3:00 pm. She is joined on stage by Pianist Adam Eros, Ramon Negron (viola) and Scott Avenell (horn).
The selections for this week’s performance are a unique mixture of the old and the new.
“It’s rare to have the opportunity to hear both classic repertoire and new music together,” Yeung said. “The new music that is being performed will encompass a variety of genres and should appeal to persons with multiple musical tastes. There’s a little something for everyone and, with new music, there is a new experience.”
Any performance of Classics at the Merc has been the ideal setting for not only those who are classical musical enthusiasts but also for those who are eager to learn.
“This program is especially good for someone who is not familiar with the genre because there is so much variety in the program,” Yeung said. “If you are someone who likes to sample everything or someone who has a love for new experiences, then this is the concert for you.”
The recital series, Classics at the Merc was conceived in 2008 as a way for the whole family to enjoy classical music. Since 2011, the series has been curated by California Chamber Orchestra’s Robert Culverhouse, Jr., in conjunction with Artistic Director and Conductor, Dana Zimbric. The series has since welcomed the best and brightest talents in classical music for those in the community to enjoy.
For Sunday’s installment, Yeung and her quartet look forward to delighting guests, educating as well as entertaining, and maybe providing their audience with a few surprises.
