Classics at the Merc Hosts Top Notch Musical Talent in August
The popular classical music series, Classics at the Merc, is concluding a summer filled with quality performances with two shows in August by some of the best musicians in the genre.
On August 9th, the Jung Trio returns to the Classics at the Merc stage. The Jung Trio is comprised of sisters Jennie (piano), Ellen (violin), and Julie (cello) Jung. Together the trio has appeared in concerts all across North America as well as Asia, Europe, and Africa.
A multi award-winning triple threat, the Jung Trio have received degrees from the University of Toronto, New England Conservatory of Music, and all three graduated from Yale University School of Music. Most recently, pianist Jennie received her Doctorate in Musical Arts from The Juilliard School. She is on faculty at the Claremont Graduate University and is a chamber music coach at the Colburn School for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles. Ellen and Julie perform frequently with iPalpiti Chamber Orchestra and record for commercials and movie/TV soundtracks. The Jung Trio is currently Trio-in-Residence at Vanguard University of Southern California and is working to build the chamber music program at the school.
On August 23rd, the Novellus Ensemble, featuring Alyze Dreiling (violin), Ramon Negron (viola) and Lorie Kirkell (cello), will perform. Each has appeared on the Classics at the Merc stage in the past, but this will be their first time performing together for the series. Accomplished musicians as well as educators, each member of the Novellus Ensemble are currently faculty at San Diego area colleges; Dreiling and Negron at University of San Diego and Kirkell at Grossmont College.
Classics at the Merc is normally a weekly series at the 48-seat Merc Theater, inside the Old Town Temecula Community Theater complex but, due to ongoing renovations, they have recently been presenting only two shows per month. Shows are currently being held at the Temecula Community Center on the second and fourth Sundays at 3:00 pm. The series is expected to resume their weekly schedule when the theater is completed in Late September / October.
Classics at the Merc is just one of several music series’ at the Merc, presented by the Old Town Temecula Community Theater, featuring several genres including jazz, country, cabaret, Dixieland and others.
