In the City of Temecula, art is everywhere. From the Gallery at the Merc to the “Art Off the Walls” at the Truax Building to the exhibits at the public library, high quality artwork can be found almost anywhere you look, even on the streets of Old Town – and I mean ON the streets of Old Town – when the Temecula Art and Street Painting Festival returns to Old Town this weekend.

For fifteen years, this festival of all things art has turned the streets into a full-color chalk wonderland. The theme of this year’s festival is “My Favorite Time” and will feature more than 80 pieces created by artists from ages 6 to 80.

Artists will begin painting at 5:00 pm on Friday, June 26th, with a goal of finishing by 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 28th; just in time for review by the judges. Awards will be given out for the “Best in Show” as well as “People’s Choice,” “Best Monochromatic,” “Best Theme,” and “Best Youth.”

For those who want to try their hand at their own masterpiece, more than 1,800 small sections will be reserved for spectators and families, allowing them to pick up some chalk and have at it.

In addition to the chalk artist’s competition, the Temecula Art and Street Painting Festival features a juried art show, where fine artists, ceramicists, jewelry designers and photographers will be showing and selling their work in festival tents lining Town Square Park, Main Street and the Civic Center quad.

To add to the festival atmosphere, food and drink vendors will be onsite and live world music will provide the soundtrack for the dozens of works coming to life right in front of festival visitors’ feet.

If this isn’t enough art for one weekend, the 2nd Annual Yarn Splash will be returning to Sam Hicks Monument Park and the Temecula Valley Museum. Yarn artists will color trees, park benches, and sidewalk railings with their brightly knitted and crocheted art. The arts and craftiness will begin on Saturday, June 27th and be on display through August 30th.

See? I told you art was everywhere.
