Calling All Fairytale Characters! Shrek: the Musical is Here
In 2001, Dreamworks Pictures introduced the world to an ornery, gas-passing, swamp-dwelling, grumpy green ogre who, despite his many unnerving and repulsive qualities, managed to capture the hearts of millions. A computer-animated powerhouse, the humor and originality of “Shrek” catapulted the film’s success; eventually beating animation juggernaut, the Walt Disney Company’s “Monsters Inc.” to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Spawning two full-length sequels and numerous animated shorts, “Shrek” was unstoppable and it wasn’t long before the ogre and his rag tag gang of misfits conquered the bright lights of Broadway.
“Shrek: the Musical” is a singing and dancing retelling of the journey of title hero and his talking donkey best friend to save the beautiful Princess Fiona from the evil Lord Farquaad. Without giving too much of the plot away, it ends with everyone living (spoiler alert) happily ever after.
Now the Broadway hit comes to our own backyard when the City of Temecula Youth Musical Theater brings “Shrek: the Musical” to the Temecula Valley High School Golden Bear’s Auditorium this week.
“This has been such a great show to direct,” City of Temecula Youth Musical Theater Director, Jennifer Stuart, said. “The theme of acceptance is delivered throughout this show, in amazing song lyrics and dialogue. It is wonderful to watch these kids work together to create such a well-polished production.”
The family-friendly show runs June 25th through the 28th and tickets are $9 per person, with no assigned seating. Children under the age of two are free, if sitting on an adult’s lap.
Summertime can get a little boring for the kids so why not bring them to see their favorite fairytale friends in the City of Temecula Youth Musical Theater’s production of “Shrek: the Musical?” Don’t worry if you get hungry during the show. I heard donkey’s making waffles!
