Temecula Valley Music Awards Now Accepting Submissions

Tim Moyer, founder of the Temecula Valley Music Awards, knows firsthand the importance of music education in schools.

“My son Shawn was on the drum line for all four years (of high school) and has become a professional drummer, as well as writing and producing music for film and TV; mainly due to his music education,” Moyer said during a recent interview. “These programs cost money for equipment, special coaching, custom written music arrangements, travel, and uniforms and on and on. I started the TVMAs to help provide much needed financial support for these programs.”

A 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, Moyer and his team started the TVMA’s to showcase the exceptional local talent of the Temecula Valley while earning money for the music programs of local schools. In its first two years, the awards donated a total of $3,000 for music education and they hope to far surpass that number this year.

For 2016, the awards have grown from nine categories to twelve including acoustic, blues, country, pop, rock and more, even including categories for local cover and tribute bands, which have become a favorite amongst wine country audiences in recent years. Currently on the TVMA, artists can submit themselves or their band for nominee consideration.

According to Moyer, TVMA winners are chosen by a carefully selected, unbiased, panel of experts.

“I wanted to make sure that the TVMAs keeps a very impartial voting process,” he said. “The result is using non-paid, award-winning, well-established, professional and hardworking artists and music industry professionals from outside the Temecula Valley and all over the world. Most importantly, they are professionals whom I can trust to give an honest opinion.”

Former winner, Roger Langdon expresses the need for an event like the TVMA’s.

“As a community of musicians, we need to instill a love of music in young people that reaches beyond just being a music consumer. Young people need to be exposed to learning to play music, perform music and to interact with other musicians,” Langdon said. “Music education teaches so much about discipline and working together and can be applied to all aspects of life. The TVMA’s are all about reaching those young people.”

Though the awards themselves are not until November 19th, Moyer hopes the upcoming nominee showcases, which begin this summer, will help the Temecula Valley Music Awards gain even more momentum and community support.

“In over 13 years of living and performing in the Temecula Valley, I’ve not only seen countless amazingly talented artists emerge but also a huge growth of music venues in the area,” Moyer said. “I felt that we, as a music community, could use some form of recognition while earning money for local schools and helping to launch the careers of emerging artists of all ages.”
