Temecula Public Library Summer Reading Programs Combine Learning with Fun

Event Details:

  • What: “Read to the Rhythm” Summer Reading Program
  • When: June 8 - July 20, 2015
  • Where: Temecula Public Library
School may be out but the Temecula Public Library is making sure the learning doesn’t stop! With reading and activity programs for children, teens and adults, the library offers dozens of ways to keep your famiy’s brains engaged in between trips to the beach.

Running from June 8th to July 20th, this year’s reading program theme is “Read to the Rhythm,” where music will be a key element in each of the programs.

Children’s program topics range from lessons on string instruments, puppet shows, percussion, animal sounds and everything in between. There are even pajama story time evenings; taking care of your kiddo’s bedtime story.

Kids up to sixth grade can also participate in the library’s reading rewards program, where prizes will be given for the amount of books read throughout the summer. A notecard will be kept at the library and each participate will be given a stamp on their reading passport for each week at least one book was completed. Weekly prizes will be given away to encourage your child to continue to work on their reading skills, even during the summer months.

For the 7th through 12th graders, “Read to the Rhythm” becomes a little more groovy, when the psychedelic vibe of the sixties is incorporated into classes on topics such as “Peace, Love, Music and Tie-Dye,” “Outta Sight Melted Crayon Art,” and “Flower Power,” among others. Bellbottoms and flowered headbands are optional.

Think you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? On Tuesday nights from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, adult programs like “Stop in the Name of Olives,” a presentation by Thom Curry of the Temecula Olive Oil Company, “Rock Me Amadeus Karaoke Night” and an astronomy lesson called “Starry Starry Night” keep the adults learning fun and exciting topics long after graduation.

Program dates and times vary and, for children’s programs, free tickets will be distributed beginning thirty minutes before the start time, while supplies last. Space is limited for all Temecula Public Library summer reading programs so make sure you check with the library at www.temeculalibrary.org for more information on dates, times and how to register.

Summer may be the time to decompress when school is out, but don’t let a year’s worth of knowledge slowly escape you or your child. Sign up for “Read to the Rhythm.” It’s so much fun, your kid will never know he’s learning.
