Temecula Lights Up Blue for Autism Awareness Month

Event Details:

  • What: Light It Up Blue
  • When: April 2, 2015 @ 7:30pm
  • Where: Temecula City Hall
Thursday, April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day and the City of Temecula, in partnership with Our Nicholas Foundation, will host their third annual “Light It Up Blue” Ceremony, at the steps of City Hall.

At 7:30 pm, the public is invited to join the City in kicking off Autism Awareness Month, which is a global effort to bring attention to the neurological disorder that, as of 2014, affects 1 in 68 children in the country, according to the Center for Disease Control.

Temecula’s “Light It Up Blue” event will include light refreshments, guest speakers and a special, colorful, unveiling. To show your support, bracelets, pins and “Light It Up Blue” bulbs will be available, while supplies last.

The “Light It Up Blue” Autism Awareness ceremony is just one more way that the representatives for the City of Temecula show their pride in their hometown and the love they have for the community.

“Because Temecula provides an excellent quality of life and promotes family values, we thrive in a supportive, family-oriented community,” Council Member Mike Naggar said. “We are passionate advocates for all children faced with disabilities. We continue to work closely with the Southwest Riverside Autism Task Force, Our Nicholas Foundation, and Temecula’s inclusive programming and amenities to focus on unique abilities and not disabilities.”

Great strides are being made in the early detection and treatment of autism, but so much work still needs to be done to better understand the disorder that affects the lives of so many of our friends and neighbors. So, join the City of Temecula on World Autism Awareness Day and get the blues…for a good cause!

I appreciate the article but it’s not very supportive to call Autism a disease. No mother I know, including myself, not any therapist I’ve worked with, refers to it as a disease. In fact, I think of it as a blessing. My little one is perfect and bravely sees the world in a completely new and wonderful way.

You are absolutely right, Shireen, and i have made that correction. Thank you so much for your feedback and I hope you and your little one have a chance to attend the ceremony!
