Fireworks Frenzy! Temecula Celebrates the 4th of July

The 4th of July is coming up fast and, with parades, live music, festivals and, of course, fireworks, the City of Temecula, as well as Pechanga Resort & Casino, are pulling out all the stops to help their community celebrate America’s birthday with a bang!

The patriotic party starts at 10:00 am with the City of Temecula’s Heartfelt Star Spangled 4th of July Parade. The parade will begin on the north end of Front Street and run through the center of Old Town, from “arch to arch.” This popular annual event will feature city officials, clubs, organizations, scout troops, businesses, sports teams, equestrian groups and all sorts of other local participants looking to share their love of country with their neighbors.

Parking for the parade is available at the Old Town Parking garage until 9:45 am, just south of the Civic Center at Mercedes Street, but please note that Front Street will be closed beginning at 9:00 am. Additional handicapped parking will be available at the 6th Street parking lot.

Following the parade, refuel by grabbing some lunch in town before heading down to Ronald Reagan Sports Park for the annual Family Fun and Fireworks Festival.

The festival will include live music from 2:00 – 9:00 pm, food and drink vendors and a fun zone where, with a $5 wristband, kids have unlimited use of the inflatables, games, prize wheel and face painting. There will be an ATM in the fun zone area, but best just to bring cash and avoid those ridiculous bank fees.

The culmination of the red, white and blue-themed extravaganza at the park will be the fireworks at 9:00 pm sharp and make sure to tune your radio to KATY 101.3 FM for the proper musical accompaniment.

Although the family fun begins at 2:00 pm, the park is open beginning at 9:00 am and people will be claiming their spots really, crazy early! I can’t stress this enough! So slather the kids with sunblock, bring your lawn chairs and one of those annoying soccer-mom tents (and I mean the tents are annoying to put up, not the soccer moms, themselves. I am a soccer mom, after all), and be prepared to spend the day.

On a side note, the City of Temecula has several rules in order to keep the festival safe and fun for all attendees, including no alcohol or glass bottles, no dogs off leashes, no RV parking, etc. You can find the full list of no-no’s, as well as additional event information, on the Temecula Events website. Please review the rules before you go as to not have any holiday-spoiling surprises.

Are you spending the 4th in my neck of the woods, which is off Temecula Parkway, but still want your day to be explosive? This year Pechanga Resort & Casino will be providing a 20-minute patriotic fireworks display at dusk (roughly 9:00 pm) as a gift to their Temecula neighbors on such a special day. Pechanga staff wanted to do something special for their community as the popular Pechanga Pow Wow event, which features a fireworks finale, is postponed two years, due to resort renovations. Specators will be able to view the display at Pechanga Resort & Casino in designated parking locations.

Why not tune into KATY 101.3 FM, even if you’re watching the Pechanga sky show? It won’t necessarily match up with what you’re seeing, but it’s patriotic and you’ll get the gist, right? (And there’s always Pandora’s patriotic station.)

So, no matter where you are in the Temecula on the 4th of July, there are plenty of opportunities to celebrate this great country of ours and, while you are celebrating with barbeques, concerts, family and friends, please take a moment to thank our troops, past and present, for the sacrifices they make to secure our freedom.

All of us at What’s Up? Temecula wish you and your family a safe and happy 4th of July!
