Wake Up! The Ballet Studio and Fine Arts Network Present Sleeping Beauty
We all know the story of Sleeping Beauty. A beautiful hidden princess falls victim to an evil curse, causing her to sleep for a hundred years and only true love’s kiss can awaken her. But what happens after the handsome prince saves her from her slumber? Why, there’s a wedding, of course and the Fine Arts Network, in association with the Ballet Studio, are bringing that magical ceremony to life on stage.
On July 18th and 19th, the Ballet Studio will present a two-act exhibition with selections from some of the best works in dance, as well as new and unique material.
“The first act of the show is made up of divertissements from different ballets,” Mark Erickson, Director of the Ballet Studio said. “We will be doing solos from Swan Lake, La Esmeralda, Paquita, La Byadere, along with a few contemporary pieces which I have staged.”
The second act of the weekend’s performance will be the third act of Sleeping Beauty; a ballet originally performed in 1890 to the music of Tchaikovsky. The Ballet Studio has chosen to perform the third act specifically, which depicts the wedding of Aurora and her prince.
The lead dancers for Sleeping Beauty will be Tiffany Koepke and Joe Hochschild from the San Diego Ballet Company. Koepke, a Milwaukee native, has performed for the Milwaukee Ballet Company and the California Ballet as well as the San Diego Ballet and has danced the lead roles in pieces including Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Snow White, among others. She is currently a resident of Temecula, allowing her to easily participate in most of the Ballet Studio’s productions.
Hochschild began his career with the Marin Dance Theatre and continued with the Rock School of Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet before his three seasons with the San Diego Ballet. He has performed in Giselle, Romeo & Juliet, Firebird, and several others.
Due to the fact that the Ballet Studio’s performance includes selections from several classics, the program is ideal for those who are unfamiliar with the genre of dance and are looking to explore it further.
“Because of the diversified show it would be the perfect intro for someone that has not been exposed to the ballet world,” Erickson said. “It is the perfect family outing because there is something for everyone.”
Tickets for the Ballet Studio’s Sleeping Beauty are $25 per person, general admission, with no assigned seating. To purchase, visit the Old Town Temecula Theater website. Please note that, due to the Old Town Temecula Theater’s extension renovations, this performance will be held at Temescal Canyon High School Theater.
So, go see the Ballet Studio’s Sleeping Beauty and your family is sure to live happily ever after.
