U-Pick Berries Provide Family Fun on the Farm

One of the best things about the summer months is the bountiful fruits and vegetables not available at other times of the year, but what some of you might not know is that harvesting fresh local produce, specifically berry picking, has become a favorite Temecula family activity. Grab a bucket and rub the kids down with sunscreen because there are two local berry farms that are ripe for the picking – Kenny’s Strawberry Farms and Temecula Berry Company!

“Our U-Pick farm is a great activity for all ages and you get to have a hands-on farm experience,” Amanda Fietz of Kenny’s Strawberry Farm said. “We provide the buckets that you will need for picking and we have a sign with detailed instructions on how to pick the various crops or one of our friendly employees that can help with any questions. You can just grab a bucket, head out into the field and start searching for those ripe and juicy berries.”

Kenny’s Strawberry Farm has been providing fresh strawberries to the area for years, by way of their strawberry stands located throughout Temecula and Murrieta, but what locals may not know is that, just a little south of us, in Rainbow, Kenny’s Strawberry Farm is a great place to bring the family and pick the freshest berries your shortcake has ever seen.

All sorts of fresh goodies and gifts like jam, lemonade and even scented candles are on hand to purchase and picnic grounds are available, so don’t forget your lunch. The farm also hosts tours for school groups and clubs and you can even hold birthday parties and special events on their picturesque grounds.

In addition to u-pick strawberries, Kenny’s is growing produce year-round – from watermelon in July to pumpkins in October. They even have hydroponic vegetables all summer long and Christmas trees, beginning in late November. Stop by throughout the year because there’s always something fresh at Kenny’s Strawberry Farm!

Kenny’s Strawberry Farm is open to the public on Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. For more information on their u-pick experiences, special events, and strawberry stand locations, visit their website at www.temeculavalleystrawberryfarms.com.

Making muffins or pancakes and need the perfect summer ingredient? Open seven days a week, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, Temecula Berry Company has been family-owned and operated since the nineties.
Each year they invite the public to harvest their blueberry crop for them; letting kids and adult alike fill their buckets with as many berries as they can carry.

Known as a super food, the antioxidant-rich treasures from Temecula Berry Company are $5 per pint and you must purchase all berries you pick, so don’t let the little ones get too carried away.

In addition to berry picking, Temecula Berry Company offers school and group field trips, farm animal shows, movie nights and, of course, plenty of opportunities to put little Madison or Declan up on that tractor and snap a photo for grandma.

For a calendar of events and additional information, check out their website at www.temeculaberrycompany.com.

Whether you need the freshest strawberries for your family picnic or maybe it’s an antioxidant fix you need, u-pick berry farms are a fun and healthy way to spend the day with family, friends and neighbors.

“This is a great activity for a family outing because it’s a great place to soak up some sun, get some fresh air and experience what it is like to be on a farm,” Fietz said. “Picking your own produce is so fun and rewarding. Like we say at Kenny’s Strawberry Farm – we grow ‘em, you pick ‘em!”
