No, this isn’t the beginning of a very eclectic joke, it’s actually a real possibility when The Calicon anime, cosplay, comics and art event returns to Temecula this Sunday, March 15th from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Cosplay, where individuals dress up in costumes and accessories to represent a particular character or idea, has become extremely popular in recent years, making conventions like San Diego’s annual Comic Con some of the hottest tickets in town. Now you don’t have to travel to a bigger city to take part in the cosplay experience because The Calicon brings the imaginative fun to the Inland Empire.

The Calicon is a cosplay and anime convention that features unique art, inventive costumes, games and entertainment.

Activities for the full-day event include costume viewing, an Artists’ Alley, where art of all genres will be on display and for sale, games, and interactive panels on subjects including “Teen Titans,” costuming, robotics and figurine collectors. Participants can also join in on group meet-ups to meet other people with similar interests and hobbies.

To cap off the superhero, alien, action star, Japanese cartoon-filled day will be the Cosplay Masquerade Parade, where prizes will be awarded in the categories of accuracy, originality, closet/founding (no idea what that means) and overall best. There will also be a live art auction immediately following.

The Calicon is open to all ages and is $15 per person, if purchased online, and $20 at the door.

The Calicon will benefit the Murrieta-Temecula P.A.L program run by Safe Alternatives for Everyone, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Calicon proceeds will help S.A.F.E. continue their various programs for youth violence prevention in our community.

Whether you enjoy visiting comic book and cosplay conventions as a way of life or if you’re a newbie whose inner Superman is just dying to fly out, check out The Calicon this Sunday to immerse yourself in entertainment, art and imagination, while making new friends in the process.
